Te Reo Māori in Year 9, is a basic five week introduction course for year 9 students. In this course students explore some basic language skills in Te Reo Māori, such as whakarongo (listening), kōrero (speaking), tuhituhi (writing) and pānui (reading) and tikanga (cultural practice).
During this course, students will learn karakia, basic pronunciation, greetings, whakapapa terms and basic sentence structures, including being able to give and follow basic instructions in Te Reo Māori.
Students will also be working toward gaining 5 credits for the karakia assessment.
Year 9 Te Reo Māori is for all students at Henderson High School. We hope that through this course, students will develop a strong interest in Te Ao Māori (the Māori world).
Te Reo Māori is also a University approved subject.
