Level One Mathematics

Mathematics is a compulsory subject in Year 11. To accommodate the diverse needs of our learners, the Mathematics Department will provide two course options: MAT100 - Academic and MAT100A - Applied, allowing students to align their studies with their career pathways.

MAT100 – Academic Mathematics:

This academic course equips students for pathways leading to Calculus and/or Statistics. It focuses on algebra, graphs, and trigonometry. This course is a prerequisite for students planning to do NCEA Levels 2 & 3 Calculus/Statistics, and would like to pursue Engineering, Science, Computing and other Mathematics related courses in the future at a tertiary institution.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Year 10 Numeracy external assessment. Starting from 2024, Numeracy will be a corequisite and a mandatory part of NCEA.

NOTE: If you did not pass the Numeracy external assessment in Year 10, it is highly recommended that you select the other option - MAT100A - Applied Mathematics instead.

For any queries regarding your Mathematics course selection for the upcoming year, we encourage you to discuss them with your Mathematics teacher in the first instance. Alternatively, if needed, feel free to reach out to Mr. Kumar, the Head of Department (HOD) for Mathematics.
