Level 1 Mathematics (Academic)

MAT100
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Kumar.

Recommended Prior Learning

Successful completion of the Year 10 Numeracy external assessment. Starting from 2024, Numeracy will be a corequisite and a mandatory part of NCEA.

Mathematics is compulsory in Year 11. To accommodate the diverse needs of our learners, the Mathematics Department will provide two course options, allowing students to align their studies with their career pathways. These options are as follows:

  1. MAT100 – Academic Mathematics: This academic course equips students for pathways leading to Calculus and/or Statistics. It focuses on algebra, graphs, trigonometry, statistics and probability.
    • Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Year 10 Numeracy external assessment. From 2024, Numeracy is a corequisite and a mandatory part of NCEA.
  2. NUM100 – Numeracy: This course is designed to boost the confidence and problem-solving skills of students who may have faced challenges with mathematics in the past. It prepares students for the new Numeracy external assessment, which became a corequisite from 2024. The curriculum will emphasise the new corequisite standards for numeracy outlined by the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, it will apply mathematics and statistics concepts to real-life situations, enabling students to utilise these skills beyond the classroom.

We believe these two options will cater to the individual needs and aspirations of our students, ensuring a fulfilling and successful learning experience in mathematics.
