Level 1 Food Technology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

This course allows students to explore and investigate topics relating to food, health and well-being of New Zealanders today.

Food Technology is a theory based course that utilises practical elements to cement the theory learning.

This course will teach you knowledge and strategies to address food handling issues and safety. Subjects relate to bacteria management, food safety planning and demonstrating safe cooking practices in the classroom.

You will learn the basics of Food Technology, covering topics relating to planning, evaluation, research and testing skills in a food context. This allows you to utilise skills in preparing food, menu planning, testing cooking skills and general food preparting.

                                   

The technological element involves understanding the design loop to produce food products, refrining ideas and final dishes to make the best possible food dish. 

Students will participate in practical lessons to support their learning. Elements of food safety, nutritional cooking and exploring different cultural recipes.

Recommended Prior Learning

Yr.10 Food course is a requirement. Experience in other Technology courses may be considered.
