Course Description

Level One English

All English courses are designed to support our students as they develop their skills and knowledge. We believe that developing confidence in themselves and their use of language is essential for our students’ success. In our courses, students will engage in a range of tasks and texts that have been chosen to help them think creatively and critically. In doing so, we will help them understand more about themselves and their place in the world. We aim to make learning relevant, responsive, challenging, inclusive and fun.

Students will:

  • Be offered a rich study of written and visual texts, to enhance achievement at Year 11.
  • Develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
  • Prepare for academic success in English at Level Two by aiming for Merit and Excellence
  • Develop skills in critical thinking and apply these to unfamiliar contexts.

Term 1
English 1.2 (AS91925)
Demonstrate understanding of specific aspects of studied text (5 Credits)

'Studied text' means film and/or novel.

This standard will be assessed in Term 2.

In Terms 1 and 2 students will work towards developing their skills for 1.3 and 1.4.
